Jaipur: A week after the gruesome killing of Rajasthan police officer Phool Muhammad by a mob of Meena community in Sawai Madhopur district, the Congress government of Rajasthan has decided to order Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the murder. Bowing to the pressure from civil society Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot called a special meeting on Monday evening and took the decision.
The CM has ordered an inquiry by the CBI into the burning alive of Man Town SHO Phool Muhammad on March 17 in Sawai Madhopur. However, until the federal investigating agency takes over, the case will be probed by a Special Investigation Team of the Crime Branch of State police. The SIT will be led by Inspector-General of Police Bhupendra Singh Yadav.

Meanwhile, according to media reports, Sawai Madhopur Superintendent of Police Vishnu Prakash has been removed from the post. He will be replaced by Jaisalmer SP Anshuman Bhomia. Sawai Madhopur DSP has already been suspended.
The government is believed to have decided for a CBI probe after a serious charge that colleagues of SHO Phool Muhammad fled the scene when he was attacked.
Villagers of Meena community-dominated Surwal village were protesting against the killing of a woman and no arrest of culprits even after two weeks of incident. During the protest a Meena youth climbed up a water tank and jumped to death after setting self afire. While the SHO was trying hard to save the youth, it is alleged, he was hit from behind and as he fainted he was put in the police jeep and van was set afire.
