Shimla : Himachal Pradesh has identified two highly threatened flora species in the state, an official statement said here Wednesday.
“Wild growing numbers of gentiana kurroo royle and lilium polyphyllum were recorded during field surveys in Sangrah in Sirmaur district and in Jeoni Valley in Mandi district respectively,” a statement quoting Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said.
He said to popularise 11 endangered species, their commercial cultivation would be boosted to meet their demand in the pharmaceutical sector.
“The threat status of 57 medicinal plants was assessed and action plan for species-specific conservation is being worked out,” the chief minister added.
The state is promoting cultivation of medicinal plants by raising a nursery of 17.5 lakh plants.
