Senior leaders said that many party veterans were denied tickets.

The 65 seats for the Congress come as part of its alliance with the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal for contesting the 226 assembly seats.

“What can I say after seeing this list? Many senior leaders have not been given ticket. What did we get after serving the party throughout our life,” said a senior Congress leader said.

Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, another senior leader, said: “It’s unfortunate that many seniors were denied ticket. But what can be done now? We have to abide by the party rules as we have only been allotted 65 seats.”

“Due to vested interests of some senior leaders we will be fighting in only 65 seats. Many deserving candidates have not been given tickets. I am also one such candidate. But I do have to abide by the rules of the party and fight for it,” said Sourav Choudhury, a Congress leader.
