“Already we have seized over Rs.4.5 crore of unaccounted cash meant for influencing voters from the state in past three to four days. Now we have decided to intensify the surveillance in coming days as polls are approaching nearer. A total of 89 officials of different ranks have been deployed across the state to track the movement of illegal cash,” said IT department investigation wing director general (East) T.B.C. Rozara.

These officials, including three additional directors, 22 in the rank of assistant director or deputy director, 12 IT officers and 52 inspectors, had been deployed at two airports and in every district of the states, he said.

“In every district headquarters, a control room, headed by an assistant director, will be opened, while a round the clock control room has been set up at the office of the Income Tax directorate at Kolkata,” he said.

“Besides, two air intelligence wings at Bagdogra and NSC Bose airports have been strengthened. Each wing is now monitored by one assistant director and several officers and inspectors,” said Rozara, flanked by Vishwanath Jha, director (investigation) West Bengal.

“All the officials in other airports across the country have been notified to inform us about the passengers travelling to West Bengal with a huge amount of money. In such cases we will check and investigate into the matter and if necessary, the amount will be seized. As we cannot initiate legal proceedings against the person, the case will be handed over to the police,” he added.
