Bangladeshi govt works for welfare of freedom fighters: Liton

Rajshahi : Mayor of Rajshahi AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has said the present government has been working relentlessly for welfare of the valiant freedom fighters as per its election pledge.

“Whenever Awami League got the responsibility of running the country, it ensured honor, dignity and welfare of the freedom fighters,” Mayor Liton further said while addressing a meeting organized by District Administration at the Green Plaza of city Bhaban here.

A total of 400 freedom fighters were accorded reception as part of celebrating the 41st Independence and National Day-2011 here last night.

Mayor Liton underlined the need for starting the trial of the war criminals as early as possible the whole nation are eagerly waiting to see the trial.

In this regard, he mentioned that successful completion of the cherished trial could be the effective means of freeing the nation from the curse of stigma coupled with implementation of the spirit and ideals of the war of liberation.

Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, Prof Zinatunnessa Talukder, MP, Chairman of Barind Multipurpose Development Authority Nurul Islam Thandu, Commissioner of Rajshahi division Abdul Mannan, DIG of Police of Rajshahi Range Siddiqur Rahman, Commissioner of RMP Md Obaidullah and former mayor of Rajshahi Advocate Abdul Hadi spoke on the occasion as the special guests. Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Dilwar Bakth chaired the meeting.

“We have taken step to name the district stadium after the Freedom Fighters,” Liton said adding that the children of the freedom fighters would be given priority in getting jobs in the city corporation.
