Vardhan stops Sasikumar in all-India tennis event

Chennai : Top seed Vishnu Vardhan ended Mukund Sasikumar’s dream run with a straight sets victory to lead the men’s singles field into the semifinals of the MCC SR Balasubramaniam Trophy All-India tennis tournament here Wednesday.

Vardhan eliminated the 14-year old Sasikumar 6-1, 6-2 while other seeded players also made it to the penultimate round.

The results (all quarter-finals):

Men’s singles: (1) Vishnu Vardhan bt Mukund Sasikumar 6-1, 6-1; (2) Vijay Sundar Prashanth bt (6) Vijay Kannan 7-5, 4-6, 6-3; (3) PC Vignesh bt (7) Rynold Timothy 6-3, 6-1; (4) Ajai Selvaraj bt (5) Vinod Sridhar 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Men’s doubles: (1) PC Vignesh/Sriram Balaji bt Sethu Kannan/Amit Chawla 6-1, 6-3; (2) Ajai Selvaraj/Vinod Sridhar bt Irfan Hussain/Tirumurthi 7-5, 7-6 (6); (3) Vijay Sundar Prashanth/Arunprakash Rajagopalan bt Tariq Jacob /Elwin Antony 7-5, 6-2; (4) Reynold Timothy/Bharat Bharadwaj bt Nagarajan /Ganga Singh 4-6, 6-3, 10-2.
