New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday said a decision to carry out surgical military strikes at terrorists holed up in Pakistan depends on the political will of the government, but there is sentiment for such an action in the country.
“There is a sentiment in the country. The army chief has said they have the capability. The question is of political will of the government,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.
Replying to a volley of questions whether the BJP was demanding such a strike, Javadekar said it was for the government to take a decision.
He added that the men wanted by India, including Lashkar-e-Taiba leaders Hafiz Sayeed, Zaki ur Rehman Lakhvi and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, should be brought to the country either diplomatically or through any other means.
Referring to remarks of Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir about a catastrophe in case of raid by any other country, Javadekar said the government does not talk forcefully but the western neighbour was talking loudly despite the Abbottabad stealth raid by the US.
“26/11 attack on India is much bigger than 9/11. It is grave thing to happen,” he said.
Army chief Gen V.K. Singh said Wednesday that Indian forces are capable of Abbottabad-like operation if such a chance comes.
