Aligarh: To mark the 24th anniversary of the Hashimpura massacre, the Forum for Muslim Studies & Analysis (FMSA) Aligarh held a meeting yesterday where speakers regretted over the endless wait for justice to the victims. Speakers of the meeting drew the attention of saner elements of the Indian society to the fact that even after 24 years, justice has not been delivered and 63 PAC men including Commandant of Batallion-42 R.D. Tripathi were still roaming free.
Addressing the meeting, Prof. Razaullah Khan said that the PAC had taken away Muslims from their homes, lined them up and shot down. He said that the PAC dumped the dead bodies in the upper Ganga canal and the Hindon River.
Secretary General of FMSA Jasim Mohammad said that the genocide was a documented fact but the most shocking was the attitude of Mulayam Singh Yadav who is supposed to be Muslim-friendly. He said that Yadav granted permission to prosecute only 19 PAC men and promoted 44 PAC men including commandment. He pointed out that none was suspended.
Prof. Syed Iqbal Ali said that Muslims lost properties worth millions and hundreds of families lost their bread-earners and children. “But justice has not been delivered to them which is a violation of the Constitution of India that guarantees life of an Indian citizen,” he added.
Senior columnist, political analyst and coordinator of the FMSA N. Jamal Ansari said that cases against 19 PAC men were still pending in the Tis Hazari court that indicated the health of our judicial system.
At the meeting a resolution was passed demanding legal actions against all 63 PAC men including commandant to restore public confidence in the government.
About 42 Muslims were killed by the personnel of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) on May 22 1987, at Hashimpura in Meerut district. Many were also injured during the communal violence that had broken out in the wake of the opening of the Babri Masjid for worship by Hindus.
