The lightning strikes occurred at about 2 p.m. in Delduar sub-district of Tangail district, 92 km from Dhaka, Xinhua reported citing The Daily Star.

A group of people who were harvesting paddy in a field were hit by the lightning and six of them died on the spot, a local official said. Ten others were injured in the incident.

In another incident, a farmer from another village died when struck by lightning while he was also harvesting paddy.

Death due to lightning strikes is common in Bangladesh during this time of the year, as the weather changes from the dry season to the rainy summer season.

At least 21 people, including two children, were killed in similar incidents in six Bangladesh districts Monday.
