Bangalore : Scam-hit former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa Tuesday walked out of jail here after he got bail in two graft cases related to land scams.
Amid scenes of jubilation, a beaming Yeddyurappa, clad in white safari suit, was greeted by hundreds of supporters of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as he stepped out of the jail where he was imprisoned for over 20 days.
The 68-year-old first BJP chief minister in south India was received by sons B.Y. Vijayandra and B.Y. Raghavendra, Excise Minister P. Renukacharya and Industries Minister Murgesh Nirani.
“I am happy to be freed on bail. It’s Diwali for me. I am grateful to my family, supporters and party leaders for having stood by me all these days,” Yeddyurappa told reporters.
He was whisked away by his family in a convoy of five cars to a temple.
