Calicut: Minister of State for External affairs E Ahmed will give his explanation before the Election Commission [EC] on his twin memberships in political parties, Indian Union Muslim League [IUML] and Muslim League Kerala State committee [MLKSC], immediately after the Hajj. Though he had asked for three months from the EC, he was granted time only till 30th of November.
Though the state committee is said to be the state level fraction of the National Party both are registered separately under the EC. Ahmad’s opponent fraction, which has reorganized and started acknowledging themselves as the real IUML committee, had registered a complaint against him on this regard.
The legal experts had told the leaders that once the MLKSC is dissolved within the IUML, the crisis could well be solved and this would allow Ahmed to escape further actions from the Election Commission.
Meeting the Press at Kerala house, Muslim League state General Secretary ET Muhammed Basheer told that MLKSC is just the state fraction of the IUML and there is never so ever any complication in dissolving it to the national party. He added that the last year, IUML in their meeting at Chennai had formed a committee with E Ahmed as its national president.
Meanwhile the Indian Union Muslim League committee ‘National President’ [Ahmed’s opponent fraction] Basheer Ahmed Khan on Tuesday reassured his statement that such dissolution of the party is practically impossible, citing the fact that on March 27th they have formed a committee with him as the National President and former IUML MP Abdussamads daughter Fathima Musaffar as the national secretary. They have sent the decisions taken on the March 27th committee to the EC, for its approval and if anything as such happens Muslim league will lose their national status and will have to function further only as a state political party.
Even if the EC admits the dissolution, Ahmed risks threats of legal actions against him from the opponent fraction for his twin memberships in parties registered independently under the EC.
