New Delhi : An resident of Amritsar in Punjab was arrested for misusing the credit card of the Indian ambassador to Sudan and causing him a loss of Rs.2 lakh, police said Saturday.
Avtar Singh was arrested from Amritsar where he came to pick up an order booked by him online using the card.
Police received a complaint Nov 8 from the ambassador, A.K. Pandey, that a packet was booked online by using of his card in the name of Satinder Singh from Guru Nanak Colony, Amritsar.
But when police reached Amritsar the address was found to be fake and the phone number given by the accused at the time of booking was also switched off.
“He (Avtar Singh) deliberately gave the fake address so that the courier company was forced to contact him and then he would personally collect the order,” said an official.
However, police got his new phone number from the credit card company and asked him to collect his order from a post office in Amritsar. He was arrested from the spot.
