Moscow : Polish authorities Thursday released on parole a Russian national who was sentenced in 2010 to three years in prison for spying.
Russian businessman Tadeusz Juchniewicz was arrested in February 2009 after he had lived in Poland for 10 years. He pleaded not guilty to the spying charges. He was tried behind closed doors and was convicted as a Russian military sleeper agent, the Polish Press Agency said quoting court officials.
Investigators said he had since 2003 maintained regular contact with a Russian centre with the help of spying gadgets camouflaged as house utensils.
The decision to grant him parole was taken after he had already served more than two- thirds of his prison term.
