Colombo : Former Sri Lankan army chief General Sarath Fonseka was Friday sentenced to three years in jail.
Fonseka was found guilty of spreading public disaffection by quoting allegations that surrendered Tamil Tiger rebels were ordered to be killed by the then defence secretary, Xinhua reported. He is currently serving a 30-month jail term for other offences.
As the joint opposition candidate in presidential polls in January 2011, Fonseka was defeated by incumbent Mahinda Rajapaksa and was arrested soon after.
