Gilani told Associated Press of Pakistan in Lahore Sunday that the people of Pakistan, their democratic government and armed forces stand united in defending the country’s independence and sovereignty and will not hesitate to render any sacrifice in this task.

He said the resolution of the All Parties Conference (APC), held here in September, was a clear cut message to the world that the country was united in safeguarding its national security and integrity.

The country has been rocked by a sensational disclosure that in an alleged secret memo to Washington President Asif Ali Zardari feared a military coup soon after US commandos killed Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad May 2.

“Political differences can be put aside without slightest hesitation in case national sovereignty is threatened,” Gilani said.

The prime minster said the resolution stipulated that peace should be given a chance and negotiations should be held with militants to persuade them to join the peace process by renouncing violence.

The people of Pakistan were determined to defeat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, he added.

Gilani said: “No one should doubt our intentions against terrorism because the Pakistani nation and its economy have suffered the most and are still facing the major brunt of terrorism as a frontline state.”

“How can we collaborate with those who are against our country,” he asked.
