Pakistanis also praise BJP campaign on girl child: Chouhan

Bhopal : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Madhya Pradesh led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan Tuesday said that its campaign to save the girl child has also won accolades from Pakistanis.

The government released a statement claiming that its ‘Beti Bachao Abhiyan’ had created waves not only in other states but even in Pakistan.

“Sofia Jamal, who is associated with famous Pakistani media group Dawn, has described the ‘Beti Bachao Abhiyan’ of Madhya Pradesh government as a very positive initiative,” said the statement.

“She said that this campaign deserves encomiums since daughters are invaluable gift of nature,” said the release.

Anchor of Dawn TV’s popular programme “Kab Tak”, Sofia expressed this view while replying to a question during interview by Bansal News regional news channel aired in Madhya Pradesh.

The sex ratio in the heartland of India as per 2011 Census is 920 females against 1,000 males. While the national figure has risen from 933 to 940 females per 1,000 males in last decade, Madhya Pradesh’s figure has fallen from 930 to 920 females per 1,000 males.

In districts like Murena and Bhind, the sex ratio figures are as low as 839 and 838 females, respectively, per 1,000 males.

The state government launched the save the girl child campaign last month.
