New Delhi: The Rajasthan chapter of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), along with other Muslim organizations organized a protest rally on 30th Sept. in Jaipur demanding the removal of Rajasthan home minister Shanti Dharawal.
Dhariwal had allegedly made a provoking statement justifying police atrocities on Meo Muslims during the communal riot between Gujjars and Meo Muslims in Gopalgarh area of Bharatpur district of Rajasthan on 14th September, 2011. The communal clashes started after a controversy over a land. 10 Meo Muslims were killed and several got injured during the riot.
Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari, the national president of JIH condemned Gopalgarh riot and demanded strict possible action against those responsible for the killing of innocent Meos.
“Communal riots have become a dark chapter in independent India’s history. Their number runs in thousands, the latest being in Gopalgarh. Police and administration have failed to do their duty and instead acted in a partisan manner,” Umri said while addressing a press conference here in New Delhi today.
On the other hand, Meo Muslims from different places of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab with support of several Muslim organizations also organized a protest march on 30th September at India Gate in New Delhi.
The protesters intended to go to 10 Jan Path to meet UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi but police didn’t allow. Then a five member delegation led by Shoaib Iqbal of LJP met Sonia Gandhi and apprised her feeling of Muslims about the Gopalgarh riots.
The delegation also handed her a memorandum contained demands of removal of Rajasthan home minister, a compensation of Rs. 25 lakh to the families of each killed person and Rs. 5 lakh to each injured.
