Sources in the Goa legislative assembly’s PAC also said that local politicians, bureaucrats and police officials were sheltering the mining scam and it was reflected in the report.

The PAC is also allegedly learnt to have underlined the importance of tracking down the money trail stemming from the illegal mining industry pegged to be at thousands of crores of rupees to politicians and other business houses.

The PAC, chaired by Leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar, is expected to be tabled before the Goa legislative assembly during the two day monsoon session which begins Wednesday (Oct 5).

The PAC has started its probe on the basis of the Comptroller Auditor General (CAG) report, which said that export of ore over the last decade ever since the mining boom in China needed to be probed.

Goa has exported nearly 54 million tons of iron ore in the last fiscal year out of which nearly 7 million tons is allegedly illegally extracted ore.
