Toronto: Pre-schoolers improve their verbal intelligence only after three weeks of classroom instruction, based on interactive and music-based cognitive training cartoons, new research says.
The cognitive (brain related) benefit was striking and consistent in 90 percent of the children who took the learning programme, validated by brain imaging data.
“Our data has confirmed a rapid transfer of cognitive benefits in young children after only 20 days of training on an interactive, music-based cognitive training programme,” Sylvain Moreno, who conducted the study at York University here, said.
“The strength of this effect in almost all of the children was remarkable,” said Moreno, who is now with Baycrest Centre for Brain Fitness, the journal Psychological Science reports.
The findings have exciting implications for conceptualizing and improving neuroeducation programmes for children of all ages, and potentially for older adults, according to a Baycrest statement.
