New Delhi: A team of Indian design institutes led by the Ahmedabad-based National Institute of Design (NID) has won an award at the PACE Forum 2011, a global design conference-cum-competition themed on sustainable urban transportation at the University of British Columbia in Canada.
Seven design teams from across the world took part in the automotive design contest, NID said in a statement Wednesday, after winning the award for industrial, design, market research and overall best collaboration.
The team from India presented a design project showcasing the process, concepts and a final prototype (final design model) of a sustainable vehicle, PEEL.
The design was lauded for its “possibilities of being practically viable, affordable and enhancing green-electric mobility solutions to check ecological pollution”.
In a statement, a spokesperson for NID said “the project demanded strong contextual understanding and imagination to foresee the future lifestyle scenario, trends and creative rigour”.
He said “urban mobility was estimated to increase several times in India by 2030, posing incremental challenges in terms of pollution, congestion, energy-fuel scarcity, driving behaviours and individual automotive preferences”.
