Tehran : A senior Iranian official has called as “hilarious and baseless” the US accusation about a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the US, a media report said Thursday.
On Tuesday, the US authorities said that two men, Manssor Arbabsayar, a 56-year-old US citizen holding both Iranian and US passports, and Gholam Shakuri, an Iranian citizen, were charged with sponsoring and promoting terrorist activities abroad, including a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the US, reported Xinhua.
Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami said Wednesday that “the recurrent failures and frustrations of the US leaders at (their) foreign policies have prompted them to make an attempt to divert the international community’s attention from the collapse of the capitalist establishment through raising ridiculous and baseless disputes to create rift among Muslims,” Press TV reported Thursday.
During the past two days, Iranian officials have strongly rejected the US accusations and have called it a “scenario” to create discord among regional countries.
