The children – aged between 10-13 years – were freed Thursday night from the bakery’s manufacturing unit in Sarojininagar area following a joint operation by the police and the state labour department officials.

“We raided the bakery’s unit, where the children were forced to work in inhuman conditions for over 15-18 hours daily,” Police Inspector Shiv Kumar told reporters here.

“According to the children, they were working at the bakery unit for around four months without any wages. The two men arrested had brought them from various districts of West Bengal on the pretext of imparting education and providing employment,” he added.

“A case has been registered against the owner Mukesh Tandon, who is absconding. At present the children are with an NGO,” said Shiv Kumar.
