Moscow : Russia Wednesday launched a US communications satellite into space from the Baikonur Space Centre in Kazakhstan, the Russian space agency Roscosmos said.
The Proton-M carrier rocket, carrying the ViaSat-1 satellite, blasted off at 18:48 GMT, Xinhua reported.
The satellite is scheduled to separate with the rocket at 04:01 GMT Thursday.
It was the sixth launch of Russia’s Proton rocket in 2011.
The ViaSat-1 is reportedly the heaviest satellite lunched by Russian rockets.
