Lucknow: Reacting over the Lakhimpur Kheri incident in which two advocates were shot dead by the Lekhpals on Saturday, lawyers belonging to various bars and associations have announced to abstain from work on Monday.
The lawyers said that all across the state they will abstain themselves from judicial works and will be protesting in several parts of the district to press for their demands. In the Lucknow district, it is likely that there would be intensified agitation. In this regard, Lucknow Bar Association, Central Bar Association and Family Court Bar Associations have formally announced a day long work boycott.
The president of the Family Court Bar Association, Padam Kirti regarded the murder of the two lawyers as the ‘total failure of the local administration in preventing the ghastly crime.” Kirti is demanding for the suspension of the administration officials as well as compensation of 20 lakh for the family member of the advocates as well as compensation for those who sustained injuries during the incident.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of Central Bar Association, Uma Shankar Srivastav also condemn the incident. He said: “This is shameful act done within the administration premises which is the matter of shame for the administration. The bar has decided to remain abstain from all the judicial works on Monday and also a general meeting of the association has been called for discussing over strategies for intensifying the agitation if the demands are not met by the government.”
Rakesh Tyagi of Sales Tax Bar Association also condemned the incident and called for strickest action against the culprits.
On Sunday, the Commissioner of police, Prashant Trivedi and IG Zone Subesh Kumar Singh inspected the crime scene personally. The latest development being that the bodies of two lawyers who had died in the clash were handed over to the family members after postmortem. Last rites were also performed by the family members. Commissioner Trivedi claimed that all the lawyers who had received injuries during the incident have been discharged from the hospital.
