Bangalore : The Lokayukta (ombudsman) court Wednesday adjourned till Sep 13 the hearing in the graft case against former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and his family in the land de-notification (freeing from government control) case.
The case was filed on a private complaint by two city-based advocates, alleging irregularities and kickbacks.
Adjourning the hearing, Judge N.K. Sudhindra Rao granted time to Yeddyurappa’s counsel Ravi Naik to argue on who should represent the advocate petitioners (Siranjin Basha and N.K. Balraj), as senior counsel C.H. Hanumantharaya wished to be their prosecutor.
Naik submitted to the court that the complainant’s counsel, who filed an affidavit to appear as prosecutor in the trial case, should justify why he wished to represent the two petitioners.
Naik also wanted Lokayukta’s Special Public Prosecutor Pramod Chandra to be present in court during the hearing.
As directed by the judge Aug 29, Yeddyurappa, his two sons B.Y. Vijayendra and B.Y. Raghavendra and son-in-law R. Sohan Kumar came to the court.
Raghavendra is the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Lok Sabha member from Shimoga, about 280 km from Bangalore.
In their complaints, the two city-based advocates accused Yeddyurappa, Vijayendra, Raghavendra and Sohan Kumar and 11 others of conspiracy to denotify lands in return for monetary benefits.
Yeddyurapa resigned July 31 after former Lokayukta Justice (retd) N. Santosh Hegde recommended his trial for graft in the multi-crore rupee mining scam in the state.
