Kolkata : The Calcutta High Court Friday sought a report from the West Bengal government in a case filed after several school students Thursday were allegedly forced to attend a political rally in the city.
“A case has been filed regarding the school students being allegedly forced to join in a political rally. The court has asked the government to submit a report giving details of what had happened and what the government was doing in that regard. We have been given seven days time to file the report,” said government counsel Ashok Banerjee.
Several students Thursday were reportedly whisked away from a government-run school in the city’s New Alipore area to join a rally at Rani Rashmoni Street. The rally was organised by the All India Democratic Students’ Organization (AIDSO), the student wing of Socialist Unity Centre Of India (SUCI), an ally of the ruling Trinamool Congress.
The parents and guardians of the students ransacked the school premises and assaulted teachers after they reached the school looking for their wards and were informed that they had been taken away for a rally.
