He continues to be on the ventilator at Apollo Hospital here.

Ayazuddin has remained unconscious and his neurological status, following lack of oxygen due to cardiac arrest prior to arrival at the hospital, continues to be a cause of grave concern, according to a medical bulletin.

“He is being continuously monitored by a multi-specialty team round the clock. He had continuous bleeding from the injury to the left kidney and left nephrectomy (removing all or part of kidney) was performed this (Tuesday) morning,” the bulletin said.

“His vital parameters are being maintained with supports and he continues to be on the ventilator. His status remains to be critical,” added the bulletin.

Ayazuddin, an upcoming cricketer, was driving a high-power sports bike with his cousin pillion riding when he lost control and they fell down near Poppalaguda on the Outer Ring Road. His cousin Ajmal-ur-Rahman, 16, died in the accident.

Ayaz is the youngest of the two sons of Azharuddin from his first wife Naureen, whom he divorced to marry former actress Sangeeta Bijlani.

Azhar, Naureen, Bijlani along with other relatives are camping at the hospital.

Azharuddin, who was banned from cricket for life in 2000 after allegations of match fixing, is now a Lok Sabha member elected from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh.
