New Delhi : At least seven people were killed and 80 injured in the train collision in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore district, Railway Board chairman Vinay Mittal said Wednesday, citing information from the spot.
However, the figures could change, he said, at a briefing along with Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi here.
Trivedi had not given any casualty figures, while police at the accident spot had spoken of 15 killed.
The accident occurred when the Chennai Beach-Vellore electric multiple unit (EMU) train hit the Arakonam-Katpadi passenger train that was waiting for a signal near Arakonam junction in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore district at around 9.30 p.m. Tuesday At least three bogeys were thrown off the tracks in the collision.
