Islamabad : More than 150 officials of national carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) are getting a monthly salary of Rs.500,000 or more, the Senate has been told.
Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar provided the house a list of the 153 highly-paid PIA employees. Pilots mainly figure in the list.
To a query, the minister said 12 people were inducted into PIA in violation of government rules, Dawn reported.
Operational issues have plagued PIA, which has an ageing fleet. In July 2006, 45 people died in a plane crash in Multan.
