Lucknow : Villagers in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district killed a crocodile, officials said Saturday, adding that around 15 accused have been booked for clubbing to death the reptile protected under the Indian Wildlife Protection Act.
Locals in Khudaganj village late Friday attacked the crocodile with sticks and iron rods after noticing the reptile in the fields.
“Preliminary investigations indicate the crocodile did not attack anyone. Still, the villagers killed the reptile. So, action would be taken against all those involved in the killing,” Divisional Forest Officer S.S. Srivastava told reporters in Shahjahanpur, some 150 km from Lucknow.
“The carcass of the crocodile, which was recovered today (Saturday) has been sent for autopsy,” he added.
