“Steel ministry wants to establish the processing units in Gonda, Jhansi, Hardoi, Lalitpur and Mirzapur, but due to lackadaisical approach of the state government, we are facing problems in getting land for setting up the units,” Verma told reporters at a press conference here.

“For an all-round development of the state, the Mayawati government must stop doing politics over such projects, and must ensure every help to centre for proper execution of developmental projects being announced by the union government,” he added.

Verma said despite the “hurdles” by the state government, he would continue to strive for the establishment of steel processing units in Uttar Pradesh.

“The state government believes that if it supports the centre in setting up such projects, it would lose support of the people in Uttar Pradesh in the 2012 assembly elections. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government needs to change this attitude,” said Verma.

He said in the upcoming polls, no party will be able to get an absolute majority. “But, I am sure that the Congress performance in the polls will definitely improve considerably, and the party may be able to form a government.”
