Lucknow: Reacting to Chief Minister Mayawati’s letter seeking reservation for Muslims in proportion to their population, the national general secretary of Samajwadi Party (SP) Azam Khan raised the issue of Jauhar University in Rampur on Monday alleging that the CM sabotaged the project as it was meant for Muslims unliftment.

“Her letter cannot be taken seriously. She has a flair of writing letters. Earlier, she had covered every subject as trifurcation of state, package for Bundelkhand, flood and drought region etc. There is nothing new in this letter; as Muslims are in a decisive position so she wants to project herself as their messaiah,” said Khan while addressing newsmen on Monday. Khan also claimed that CM did little for Muslims during her four and a half years regime and thus cannot be trusted.

Khan also lamented that Mayawati was instrumental in sabotaging the Jauhar University in Rampur which was founded by him with minority character. “The buildings were bulldozed by the CM and when I raised it in the assembly she gave a three-page letter of assurance while the buildings were razed to ground,” said Khan showing the photographs of police action and razing of buildings of the university in Rampur. He also claimed that CM is not giving the letter of authorisation so that the institution may be accorded university status. “It is listed as university with University Grants Commission (UGC) but state government is hindering other formalities reflecting its anti-Muslim character,” he claimed. Khan also alleged that 58 cases have been lodged against him during the course of struggle for Jauhar University.

The SP leader also claimed that CM even named the proposed Arbi Farsi University after BSP’s founder Kanshiram and not on any arabic scholar’s name. “I am surprised if Kanshiram knew Arabic. We will not change the name on assuming power, let the people decide,” he said.

Underlining the anti-muslim stand, Khan stated that only two percent of muslims could make it to police recruitment against a whopping 14.6 percent during Mulayam’s regime.
