Islamabad : A microblogging service in China has said it is developing a credibility rating system to prevent false online information.
Sina Weibo said the credibility rating system will simplify content management, People’s Daily reported.
“We have been doing research on how to establish a credibility system over the past few months… we may cite the way that vendors on e-commerce websites get rated by their clients as a potential model,” said Charles Cao, the service’s top official.
Microblog system has been criticised for allowing rumours to spread quickly.
“As of June, the number of posts on Weibo has reached about 75 million every day, a figure that is still increasing rapidly,” Cao was quoted as saying.
“We will punish those who spread malicious rumours,” Cao said.
