Islamabad : The Pakistan-Iran border was closed Thursday for an indefinite period after the killing of 29 Shia pilgrims two days ago in the area, a media report said.
They were targeted in southwest Pakistan’s Balochistan province Tuesday. Of these, 26 were gunned down after their bus was ambushed by the attackers near Mastung district.
Three more Shia Muslims were killed in Quetta, the provincial capital, when they were going to a hospital to collect the bodies of those killed in the bus attack.
The Sunni militant group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi claimed responsibility for both the attacks.
An official said Thursday that thousands of labourers were rendered jobless after the border was closed.
Transporters have suspended the Quetta-Taftan service in view of the attack. They are demanding passengers’ security, according to The News newspaper.
