Islamabad : Pakistan and China have signed a number of agreements worth about $250 million.
The agreements were in economic and technical cooperation, relief goods, emergency humanitarian assistance and rehabilitation of some damaged parts of the national highways networks, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.
The agreements were signed at a special ceremony here that was witnessed by President Asif Ali Zardari.
Agreements signed involved about $ 250 million of Chinese assistance.
The signing took place Monday, a day when Chinese Vice Premier Meng Jianzhu arrived here on a two-day official visit to hold talks with the Pakistani leadership.
The visit by the Chinese leader, who holds charge of the public security portfolio, comes at a time of intense strain between Islamabad and Washington with the US pressurising Pakistan to launch an offensive against suspected militant elements in North Waziristan tribal agency.
US officials have accused Pakistan and its intelligence agency of supporting Taliban’s Haqqani network. Pakistan has denied the accusations.
Zardari thanked China for its support to Pakistan on all issues of major concern to the country and its people.
He said that Pakistan was at present passing through a critical phase as it was battling terrorism as well as trying to reconstruct infrastructure that was damaged in floods.
