In his address at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Day here, he referred the bill for setting up an Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) passed in the Lok Sabha recently and expressed confidence that it will emerge as a world class organisation to secure India’s leadership in tomorrow’s science.

“This would attract the best students to remain in the country and will enable them to out-compete and out-innovate the rest of the world,” said Deshmukh.

He said that as per the prime minister’s instructions, CSIR has developed “CSIR@80: Vision and Strategy 2022” which is a road map for “New CSIR for New India”.

He also gave away CSIR Young Scientist Awards 2011, CSIR Technology Awards 2011, CSIR Diamond Jubilee Invention Award for school Children 2010 and Prof. G N Ramachandran Gold Medal for Excellence in Biological Sciences and Technology.
