Their demand is not new as they had been agitating for it in the past also. They were subjected to brutal force during the BSP regime when police thrashed Muslim men and women on February 21, 2011 during their agitation opposite Vidhan Sabha in Lucknow. Samajwadi Party had then
assured them justice with their demands.

To remind the CM about their promise a delegation of the association met CM Akhilesh Yadav today. They greeted him with bouquets and a momento. The delegation comprised state patron Aftab Pathan, state president Nuzhat Jahan and state vice president Mohd Murtaza. After giving a patient hearing, CM Akhilesh Yadav promised all help in addressing their problems. Akhilesh reiterated his government’s commitment for the welfare of Muslims. He announced that for the upliftment of Urdu language, Urdu medium schools will be opened in Muslim dominated areas. The schools will be of primary, middle and high school level. Urdu language will also be linked to employment and there will be special provisions in budget for technical education at madarsas.

Akhilesh also stated that his government will exert all possible pressure on the UPA government for the implementation of the recommendation of Ranganath Mishra report and Sachar Committee report. But he promised that he will implement those recommendations of the two committees which can be implemented at state level.

The issue of Muslim reservation was also discussed during the meeting with Akhilesh stating that his government is committed to giving reservation to Muslims in proportion to their population.
