New Delhi : The Delhi election commission said Thursday that campaigning for the April 15 civic polls in the capital would end at 5.30 a.m. a day before.
State Election Commissioner Rakesh Mehta said that the decision of came after the recommendations of the Delhi Police.
“The state election commission, taking into consideration the advice and recommendation of the Delhi Police has decided that no political party, contesting candidates, or any other person shall convene, hold or attend any public meeting within a ward 36 hours earlier to the hours fixed for close of the poll,” Mehta said.
The prohibition on campaigning would be effective from 5:30 a.m. April 14 to ensure a fair and peaceful poll.
Campaigning ends 48 hours before the end of polling in Lok Sabha and assembly elections.
The result of the civic polls will be declared on April 17.
