Hyderabad was peaceful today, but fear grips the whole city

Hyderabad: A day after violent clashes and riots, the city remained peaceful. City Police have done an extensive security arrangement, especially in the old city area. Home minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and DGP Dinesh Reddy have visited the riots effected area and took stock of the present situation. However there was no news from the police on the relaxation of curfew and lifting of Section 144 from the city.

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy have done an emergency review meeting with the Home Minister and DGP, and made DGP directly responsible to see the security arrangements in the city. Chief Minster also appealed to the people not to pay attention on rumors, and try their bit in for peace and harmony and cooperate with police to maintain law and order in the city.

The Irani cafes and biryani joints of the city were closed down by the police forcefully, the petty business in the city got a bad hit, the whole marketing areas is being shutdown by the police after the rumors of fresh clashes buzzing around in the localities.

The SSC and degree exams have passed peacefully, students were provided protection and allowed to visit there examination centers even in the curfewed areas.

Police have so far been successful in controlling the riots and stopping it from spreading to other localities. Many youths and leaders from both the communities have been arrested as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile VHP and Bajrang Dal is planning to organize a huge protesting meeting in the Koti area a business hub of the city alleging arrests and harassment from the police.

The environment of fear still grips the whole city, Muslim youths in the old city is being seen roaming with lathis. Many residents in the older part of the city are not coming out of their homes fearing the worst to come.

Assaduddin Owaisi president of M.I.M and Hyderabad M.P have appealed to the Muslim youths not to retaliate and to show their tolerance. Many religious leaders from both the communities have appealed to their people to maintain harmony, peace and uphold the sacred non-violent values of their respective religions.
