Addressing a gathering in south Delhi’s Arjun Nagar Friday, the last day of campaigning, Dikshit claimed the Congress’s move of trifurcating the MCD had been “very effective” for the capital’s development.

She said that “We will introduce the state government’s successful Bhagidari scheme into MCD as well if you (voters) bring Congress to power in MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi).”

The Bhagidari scheme involves a government-public partnership involving the resident welfare associations in local plan formulation and implementation.

Taking a dig at the BJP, Dikshit said “during their tenure in MCD, BJP took money for employing 30,000 new employees. Not one can be seen.”

“Several crore rupees from Japanese grants were taken by the BJP for installing public toilets, but even that scheme wasn’t carried out. Where are the toilets? These are being used as shelters to keep cattle. Out of 19 multi-level car parks they promised, not even two have been completed,” she added.

Rooting for the Congress candidate in the area, Aman Arora, Dikshit urged the voters to vote for Congress in Sunday’s polls so that “the council, state and central government would all be from Congress and would be able to work for the capital’s development.”

Veteran actress Naghma added stardust to the gathering.
