Lucknow: If everything goes as per plan, Uttar Pradesh will soon have full-fledged Maulana Mohd Ali Jauhar University at Rampur.

The Jauhar University is a brainchild of cabinet minister Azam Khan. It was conceived in 2006 during the previous Samajwadi Party (SP) regime. The then CM Mulayam Singh Yadav along with his several ministerial colleagues had descended in Rampur during the foundation stone laying ceremony. However it ran into rough weather after the SP lost power and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) led by Mayawati assumed power in the state.

The Jauhar University is proposed to be built at an area of nearly 300 acres from which nearly 200 acres have already been acquired. Several buildings too are constructed and graduate classes in several streams are being conducted. Though as of now it is not a full-fledged university, it has been affiliated to AICTE for various courses.

Cabinet minister Azam Khan rues that the Jauhar University could not see the light of the day due to stiff opposition from Congress and BSP MLAs in the assembly. “It was surprising that the opposition did not come from BJP but from Congress and BSP which reflects their anti-Muslim character,” said Azam Khan.

This time with SP again in power and Azam Khan emerging stronger, hopes have again rekindled for Jauhar University. This time Azam Khan is leaving nothing to chance. He is plugging in every hole so that there is no hurdle as Jauhar University takes shape.

“We will make arrangements that the law related to Jauhar University is not affected by court orders. There will be amendments in the proposed act. The bill will be passed in form of an act. It will be passed in the next session in May,” said Azam Khan while talking to reporters in Rampur.

For this officials in higher education department are studying all possible references so that Jauhar University act is fool proof. “We get to see that there are court judgements on the issues everyday. The university does not get affected by them so it will be given protection in form of an act. A new bill in form of an act will be tabled. Every small amendment will be done in it,” he said.

Once it is passed in May, the Jauhar University is likely to start academic session from July 2012.
