Kolkata : The National Investigation Agency (NIA), India’s premier anti-terror probe outfit, Monday took over the case of five Maoists, including the successor of slain rebel chief Kishenji, arrested in Kolkata in March.
Sadanala Ramkrishna, who is said to have succeeded Kishenji as the chief of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) and four others were in the custody of the Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata police.
“A team of NIA officers were in the city and today we formally handed over the case of the five Maoists including Ramakrishna (to them),” STF chief Soumen Mitra said.
Ramakrishna, a mechanical engineer, is in a city correctional home (jail) along with four of his aides.
The STF, along with Greyhounds — an elite commando force of Andhra Pradesh — had nabbed the extremists from various parts of the city in a daylong covert operation March 1.
An arms-building workshop was busted and blueprints and several key components for building a rocket launcher, explosives, Rs.2.5 lakh and several rounds of live ammunition were also seized.
