Verma and his Romanian wife Anca Maria Neacsu were arrested June 8 for allegedly receiving money from a Swiss arms company to stall blacklisting proceedings against it by the government.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) prosecutor A.K. Gaba informed the court they were still probing the case and would file the chargesheet Aug 7.

Hearing the case, special CBI Judge Sanjeev Jain also extended the judicial custody of Verma and Neacsu till Aug 8.

Verma is also an accused in the 2006 war room leak case that was linked to leaking classified documents from the directorate of naval operations.

“The accused (Verma and Neacsu) were first arrested in this case on June 8. The CBI submitted that the charge sheet will be filed in the case Aug 7,” said the court passing the order.

“The investigating officer submitted that the investigation is still going on in the case. So the accused are further remanded in judicial custody till Aug 8,” the court said.

The CBI alleged that the couple received money from Rheinmetall Air Defence (RAD) for using their influence to stall the blacklisting proceedings initiated against it.

They allegedly took $530,000 from RAD to stall the proceedings initiated after the Ordnance Factory Board scam surfaced.

The CBI has booked the couple under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly giving bribe to public servants.
