Construction work for AMU Murshidabad campus to start on 6th Aug

Kolkata: After a clear announcement by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to start construction work for Aligarh Muslim University campus at Musrhidabad, an all-party meeting was held at Circuit House, Baharampur on 3rd August where the district administration announced that the work will start from 6th August. But no decision has been taken about the encroachers of the AMU campus land. The work will start on 273 out of 288 acres leaving 15 acres disputed area for future resolution.

AMU Officer on Special Duty at Murshidabad Dr Shah Alam told TwoCircles.net that, District Magistrate of Murshidabad had called the meeting regarding land dispute of AMU campus. Of 288 acres acquired land there is no dispute in 273 acres land. Only 15 acres land has been encroached by local residents. So, the works of AMU campus on the 273 land will be started from 6th August. Within five years all the courses of AMU will be introduced in AMU campus of Murshidabad, hopes Dr. Shah Alam.

On 30th July, Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee had declared at her office in Writers Building that, some families are living on 15 acres of AMU campus areas. The area will be left for those families. AMU campus work can be started within 273 acre land out of 288. Many families are cultivating in the 15 acre land. No such land of farmers will be taken by state Government, she said. CM said that in this regards State higher Education Secretary Satish Tewary will send a letter to the Central Government shortly.

AMU Murshidabad campus Bastabayan (Implementation) Morcha President Dr Mujibar Rahman told TCN that they are now happy that the work will start at the AMU campus. It is the victory of his organization and people of Murshidabad, he claimed. He thanked DM that, to solve the AMU dispute they were also invited to the discussion along with political parties. His organization is purely non-political and social for the people of Murshidabad, basically for the backward class Muslims of this district. He informed that, to start the works of AMU campus they had met the administration official of Murshidabad and submitted memorandum in favor of AMU campus. For the AMU campus his organization will continue their movement in future, ex principal and renowned educationist Dr Mujibar Rahman said.

The all party meeting at Circuit house was called after getting green signal from Chief Minister of West Bengal. On behalf of District Magistrate of Murshidabad, this meeting called all the political parties and some social organizations who were running the movement to establish the AMU campus. Those who are against the AMU campus were also called to attend the meeting.

Along with the District Magistrate of Murshidabad Mr Jagadish Sarkar, Congress MLA Sohrab Hossain, District President of Trinamul Congress Mr Muhammed Ali, Ex Minister & MLA Anisur Rahman, Officer on Special Duty of AMU campus Dr Shah Alam, AMU Murshidabad campus Bastabayan (Implementation) Morcha President Dr Mujibar Rahman, Secretary of AMU Murshidabad campus Bastabayan Morcha Masiur Rahman, Site incharge of AMU campus Dr Habib Ahsan, Aditional District Magistrate of Murshidabad and DL & ALRO Rabindranath Sarkar and BJP delegates took part in the important meeting, but later they boycotted the meeting saying they were not satisfied with the decision about starting construction work.

After the meeting DM of Murshidabad Rajib Kumar told reporters that, BJP delegates boycotted after all party meeting took decision to immediately start work on the AMU campus. According to decision the construction work of AMU campus will be started from 6th August at 8 O’clock in the morning.
