Johnson said rumours about his challenge for the Tory leadership were a “silly season story”, The Sun reported.

“At the moment, I certainly don’t want to be prime minister,” the mayor said.

Johnson joked about how he got stuck on a zip wire at an event for the London Olympics.

“How on earth could you elect that guy? How could anybody elect a prat who gets stuck on a zip wire,” he said.

The comments came after Cameron praised the mayor’s “brilliant role” in building the “feel-good factor” in London.

Asked if Johnson would be a good prime minister, Cameron said he still had four years to serve as mayor.
