New Delhi : Allocation of more gas to any power project, including of Gujarat, may currently not be possible in view of declining domestic gas production, Minister of State for Power K.C. Venugopal said here Monday.
In a written reply to a question in parliament, the minister cited intimation received from the Ministry of Petroleum of declining production from the KG-D6 oil field in the Krishna Godavari basin, that is operated by Reliance Industries (RIL).
The minister said that as on June 30, 2012 gas-based installed capacity of utilities in the country was 18,903 MW. Out of this, 17,586.47 MW gas-based capacity is monitored by Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
The requirement of gas for generating stations monitored by CEA and installed till June 2012 at full load is 85.89 million metric standard cubic metre per day (MMSCMD) at 90 plant load factor (PLF). Utilization of installed capacity in thermal generating units is expressed in terms of PLF.
Continuing declining production of gas in the country meant that actual gas supplied for power generation during June has been 48.44 MMSCMD.
