One of the victims, Karbhari Dhatrat, has registered a complaint that the legislator, R.M. Wani, slapped and kicked him and a colleague over releasing water for another town, a police official told IANS.

Nearly 70 percent of Aurangabad district’s water needs are fulfilled by dams built on Godavari river in adjoining Nashik district.

Police said Wani called the hydraulic engineers to his residence and demanded to know why the water was released for Gangapur town, and not Vaijapur.

“Both engineers have sustained minor injuries as they have been slapped and then kicked,” the official said.

Vaijapur is around 80 km from Aurangabad, while Gangapur is around 40 km from Vaijapur.
