Sheila Dikshit launches ‘Kerosene Free Delhi’ scheme

New Delhi : The Delhi government Tuesday launched its ‘Kerosene Free Delhi’ programme under which over 3.5 lakh below poverty line (BPL) and poor households will be provided LPG cylinders and cooking stoves.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit gave away LPG cylinders, regulators, gas stoves and tubes to 200 families here at a function.

“Delhi will be the first to become a kerosene-free city. We are providing the entire kit to poor families,” Dikshit said.

Besides BPL card holders, Antyodaya Anna Yojana and jhuggi ration card holders will be entitled for the kit worth Rs.3,049.

The Delhi government will bear the financial burden of about Rs.108 crore.

The scheme is part of the centre’s Rajiv Gandhi Gramin LPG Vitrak Yojana. To implement the scheme, Rs.22.75 crore is being borne by the centre, while the remaining Rs.85.91 crore is being spent by the city government.
