The court asked the director of the state transport department to file an affidavit on whether instructions have been issued with regard to the reservation of seats for women and the physically challenged in private buses too, and mention steps taken for enforcing such instructions.

A division bench of Chief Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice D.C. Chaudhary passed these orders during the hearing of a public interest litigation by Jitender Bhardwaj, president of the Viklang Kalyan Sangh, alleging that the conductors of HRTC buses are not complying with the orders of the management.

The court has listed the matter for hearing Oct 10.
