AMU VC urges students to join defense services

Aligarh: Lt. General Zamir Uddin Shah, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University exhorted the students to make efforts to join the defense services and enjoy a glorious career in future. General Shah said that joining the defense services would bring both the fortune and glory to them and their family besides providing them with a great opportunity to serve their mother country. General Shah was addressing a large gathering of 10+2 students at the Orientation Programme on NDA Examinations and Technical Entrance Schemes organized at the Senior Secondary School (Boys), Aligarh Muslim University.

General Shah urged the students to join the defense forces and highlighted the benefits and advantages associated with the career in Indian Army. He also mentioned his personal experiences about the life in Indian Army and its glory. He advised the students to think big in life and compete for the different competitions in order to get into the elite services.

The VC highlighted the misconceptions about the career in defense forces. He also pointed out that that there was no discrimination in the selection process for defense services. In fact, it was an open opportunity to prepare competitions and get into the defense forces, he added.

Prof. A. R. Kidwai, Director, Academic Staff College appreciated the talents AMU students possessed and laid emphasis on the importance of the guidance and focused approach. He said there were limited resources in the University for preparations for high level competitions but the situation has changed considerably and now the AMU scholars and scientists are bringing laurels to their alma mater through greater achievements.

Prof. Kidwai said that the UGC Academic Staff College has decided to organize coaching to help the students of 10+2 to prepare for the examinations of National Defense Academy.

Mr. Saad Hameed, Coordinator, Coaching Programme and Training and Placement Officer (General) informed the students about the different competitions available to get into Indian defense forces. He also gave a detailed presentation about the competitions like NDA, Technical Entry Scheme and 10+2 Direct Entry Scheme in Indian Naval Academy. He briefed the students about the details and schedule of the coaching which will start in the first week of October this year.

The students displayed great enthusiasm during the orientation programme. AMU Registrar Group Captain Shahrukh Shamshad, Director, Residential Coaching Academy Prof. Asmer Beg and Dr. Amirullah of Department of English were also present on the occasion. Dr. M. Habib, Teacher in Charge, Senior Secondary School welcomed the guests and Dr. Faiz Zaidi conducted the programme.
